Browsers
So far, I've successfully run the applet under
- Linux, using Netscape version 2.02.
- Solaris 2.5, using Netscape versions 2.02 and 3.0 (although the performance was far superior using version 2.02).
- Windows '95 using Netscape versions 3.0 and 3.0 Gold.
Troubleshooting
Assuming you have a recent enough browser, one possible problem
may be that java is disabled in your browser. To enable it:
- Under Netscape versions 2.02 and 3.0, under the "Options"
menu button, select "Security Preferences..." Under the
"General" tab, there are options to diable java and java
script. For this to work, java must not be disabled.
Other sources of help:
- The newsgroups comp.lang.java.tech
and comp.lang.java.setup seem to
have a lot of posts regarding java problems, particularly under Windows.
- According to another applet troubleshooting site:
- On Windows 95, there is a Java bug in awt.dll that may affect the draft applet.
This bug causes irregularities in the display of the applet window.
Use the Refresh button on the applet, if you encounter any display problems.
Your draft applet window will momentarily close and then re-open, during Refresh.
- If you've down-loaded Netscape's patch to moz2_0.zip to your work station,
the draft applet will not run. The draft applet runs with the version of
moz2_0.zip that was distributed with Netscape 2.0.
