While the technological potential for robotics was great, the case was “over sold” and the great productivity promised was not achieved. Since then, there has been slower development. (See, Craig, Chapter 1).
Potential applications:
- machining, welding manufacturing manipulation (common)
- agriculture (sheep sheering (picture)), autonomous agricultural vehicles
- space exploration and extraterrestrial exploration (Mars rover)
- submersible vehicles
- medical applications (telesurgery, increased dexterity)
- other (volcanic exploration, etc.)
