Rules:
  • This exam is due at 5:00 on Friday, October 19, 2007 in Prof. Goodwine's mailbox in the AME Department Office.
  • The time allowed for this exam is 3 hours. The time must be contiguous. Reduced credit will be given for work that is completed after the 3 hour limit. You must clearly indicate on your exam the work that was completed after 3 hours.
  • You may consult your course notes, course text, returned homeworks and the course instructor, but nothing else.
  • You may use Matlab or a calculator to check your work; however, partial credit is based on work done by hand, e.g., if you are to use a root locus plot to determine a good gain value, you must sketch the root locus plot and do the computations necessary to ensure it is accurate.
Problems: Numbered problems are from the course text.
  1. AP3.3
  2. DP5.1
  3. DP5.4
  4. DP6.4
  5. Table 7.2 on page 371 of the course text presents the steps for sketching a root locus plot for positive values for K in the characteristic equation 1+KG(s)=0. Create the same table to sketch solutions for 1+KG(s)=0 for negative values of K. Half of the credit will be for having the correct steps. The other half of the credit will be for deriving or proving the validity of the step.
  6. DP7.12
