Homework 1, due September 2, 2009.

Reading: chapter 1 of the course text. I will lecture on sections 1.5 and 1.6 (and later on section 1.9), but read the whole chapter. Throughout the semester, material from Chapter 1 will be important background information.
Exercises: Problem 1.1.

This homework problem says only to "classify" the equations, but initial conditions are given too. Does anyone know if we are supposed to actually solve them even though the text doesn't say so?

You don't have to solve them, just identify if they are linear, the order, etc.
