Prof. Goodwine,
Did you say we have to prove each of the rules for RL plots at least once or just that we had to work them out by hand once?

You don't have to prove the rules. You have to work them out by hand at least once in one of the problems. After you have done that once, however, you don't have to do it by hand again for any of the other problems.
