Reading: Chapter 11, sections 1 and 2.
Exercises:
- 11.1, numbers 1, 3 and 5
- 11.3, numbers 1, 2 and 3
The material for 11.1 will be covered on Monday, November 8.

Prof. Goodwine,
If we made a movie of the behavior of the system, how do you want us to turn it in? I have it saved as a Quicktime file, but do you want me to upload it to the webpage?

When do we integrate from -L to L versus using the bounds given by the piecewise function when determining coefficients? In examples 11.5 and 11.6, the piecewise terms are used. However, in example 11.7, the bounds -L to L are used, and this is what you said in class.

The distinction is not whether it is piecewise. You use 0 to L when solving the wave equation and -L to L when finding a Fourier series for a periodic function.

For problem 3, when you say to plot enough terms so it is accurate for various times, do you want us to include plots at multiple times or just take the partial sum over a very large interval?

I want a plot at various times (at least through one half fundamental period). Sort of like Figure 11.6 in the book except doing it on different plots is ok and labeling the x axis as "x" properly would be good too.
