Homework 10, due November 22, 2006.

Post by goodwine »

 • From the course text, Chapter 10, Section 7 numbers 1, 2, 5 and 6. Part (d) is optional and worth 5 points extra credit.
 • Exam 2. See the email I sent to the class for an explanation.

For my bn, I get the following:

bn = (8/pi^2)*(1/n^2)*(sin((n*pi)/2) - sin(n*pi)/2)

However, it appears that the book gets a bn only including the first term of what I got. Is there a way I can combine the sine terms or is my answer incorrect?

Nevermind, I figured out my mistake.

sin(n*pi) is always zero.

When doing the plots what values of n should we use?

Are we allowed to use a calculator to do the integration or are we supposed to solve it all by hand?

Use your good judgment to pick a n to give a good representation of the solution.

You may use a calculator, but keep in mind that you probably won't be able to on the final exam. The night before the final is probably not the time to refresh your recollection on integration.
