Homework 2 Solutions

They are here. Fixed computation for coefficients for initial conditions for Exercise 6.3.2, Sunday, 3:50pm.

Just like last week and all this year, I am making these as we go along. There will be typos and mistakes, so if you catch a possible error, post it below and I'll work to fix things ASAP.

for 6.8.5 our book gives matrix A5=[-4,1,0,0,0;0,-4,0,0,0;0,0,-4,0,0;0,0,0,-1,1;0,0,0,0,-1], which does not match matrix a5 in the solutions manual [-4,1,0,0,0;0,-4,1,0,0;0,0,-4,0,0;0,0,0,-1,1;0,0,0,0,-1]

Thanks for pointing this out. The effect of my error will be that there is only one regular eigenvector instead of two. I think that because I elaborated on the various combinations of things in the solution I will leave them the way they are. I think the math is right for the mistakenly-typed matrix, though.
