- The final grade will be based on homework sets, one midterm exam and one final exam with the following distribution:
- Homework (30%)
- Midterm (30%): Wednesday, March 7, 2018
- Final exam (40%): TBA
- Any student missing an examination or other deadline for work without a written excuse under section 3.1.3 of the Undergraduate Academic Code will receive a grade of zero for that component of the grade.
- Because the section size is relatively large, the TAs may have to randomly select which homework problems to fully grade and which ones to grade on "effort."
- Homework sets will be assigned weekly and will be due before class on Wednesdays. Late homework will not be accepted without permission from the instructor prior to the time it is due.
- Collaboration on homework assignments in encouraged. Unless otherwise prohibited, you may consult outside reference materials, other students, the TAs, or the instructor. However, all material that is submitted must be the result of your own individual effort and accurately and substantively reflect your understanding of the subject matter at the time of writing.
- You may not consult homework solutions from prior years, online solution manuals or online sources like CHEGG or Course Hero.
- Because collaboration is encouraged, there is a fine line between allowed and disallowed activities when completing homework assignments. If you have any doubt regarding whether the degree or substance of your collaboration was allowed, then simply disclose it on the homework. In such a case, the activity may result in a lowered grade on that work, but will not be treated as a violation of the Academic Code of Honor.
- The required text for this course is Modern Control Engineering, 5th edition, by Katsuhiko Ogata. This will be the primary source for the first half of the course.
- A supplemental book that has content freely available online is Feedback Systems, by Karl Johan Astrom and Richard Murray
- Material for the introductory nonlinear analysis is from Chapter 13 of Engineering Differential Equations: Theory and Applications, by Bill Goodwine
- Supplemental material for digital control will be provided. A good reference is the Digital Control chapter from Feedback Control of Dynamical Systems, 6th ed, Franklin, Powell and Emami-Naeini.
