  • Patent 4763275: Force accumulating device for sporting protective gear
    • Date issued: August 9, 1988
  • This purpose of this invention was to create a sensor that could be fixed to sporting protective gear, such as helmets, and sense forces applied to the gear. The sensor delivers a signal to a circuit for each force encountered and the circuit determines the accumulated force that the protective gear has been subject to over a specific period of time. The inventor hoped the sensor could be used to protect athletes by preventing them from being subject to forces in excess of those determined to be dangerous over the period of time. I found this patent interesting because of an interest in technological advances in sporting gear and the physics involved in sports injuries. I located this patent on the Patentstorm website, linked here: [1]
