Assignment for Monday, Janurary 24th: My selected US Patent
- Patent number 4234204
- Issued November 18th, 1980
- This invention adds a braking feature to skateboards which at the time had only inadequate and unsafe braking methods. The primary feature involves attachments to the underside of the board just above the rear wheels. When pressure is applied over these attachments they come in contact with the rear wheels, slowing them down. I chose this patent because I enjoy watching professional skateboarders on TV and I never thought about the braking mechanism of a skateboard before. I think it will be interesting to see how this design has been improved upon abd what other braking mechanisms have been invented in the 30 years following this patent. I found the patent on Google Patents .
